The call for participation in a thematic workshop on taxonomy, DNA barcoding and molecular phylogeny in Rabat, Morocco, co-organized by the Belgian National Focal Point to the Global Taxonomy Initiative, is open for submissions from March 22 until April 26, 2021.

CEBioS and the Belgian National Focal Point to the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) invite the researchers and students from French-speaking partner countries (including Rwanda) that were selected in 2020 for a GTI internship in Belgium in 2021 to submit an application to participate in a two-week thematic workshop to be organized mid-September in Rabat, Morocco, in collaboration with Moroccan partners and IRD.
The workshop provides a basic training in taxonomy, DNA barcoding and molecular phylogeny, to introduce participants to the use of molecular techniques as a complementary approach to the traditional taxonomic approaches.
Depending on the availability of places, applications of GTI alumni from eligible French-speaking partner countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Morocco, Niger, D.R. Congo, Togo, and also Rwanda) who received a grant for a GTI internship in Belgium in 2018 and/or 2019 will also be considered, as well as applications from other researchers or students from these countries currently involved in CEBioS activities, provided that they can clearly indicate why this training would be beneficial for their research/institution.
The deadline for submission of applications is April 26, 2021.

* Important note: This workshop is a unique collaboration with Moroccan partners and will take place on the date indicated if COVID-19 sanitary measures in Morocco allow it. If the health situation in other countries deteriorates and selected GTI candidates are unable to travel, the workshop will not be postponed and the participation of non-Moroccans will be cancelled and will expire.
