For taxonomy and nomenclature
- ITIS (Integrated Taxonomic Information System) aims at creating an easily accessible database with reliable information on species names and their hierarchical classification. ITIS is a partner of Species 2000 and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
- WoRMS (World Register of Marine Species) aims to provide an authoritative and comprehensive list of names of marine organisms, including information on synonymy. While highest priority goes to valid names, other names in use are included so that this register can serve as a guide to interpret taxonomic literature.
