Period [18/10/2010 - 29/10/2010]
Event location Nagoya, Japan

From 18 to 29 October 2010, the city of Nagoya in Japan welcomes the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Stakes are high at this COP, not in the least because it is organised during the International Year of Biodiversity, but also because it is now crystal-clear that the 2010 target on halting the loss of biodiversity will not be achieved.

COP 10 will have to take several important decisions, especially towards:

-       the adoption of a New International Regime on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS);

-       the adoption of a New Strategic Plan for the CBD for the period 2011-2020;

-       the adoption of a Strategy for Resource Mobilization to allow the implementation of the New Strategic Plan.

The Global Taxonomy Initiative is also on the agenda. During the COP parties will assess the progress made as part of the GTI and will discuss ways of addressing implementation gaps.

In the margins of the Conference, there will also be reflection on how the GTI can contribute to the New Strategic Plan for the CBD.
