Release date 20/03/2020
Geographical coverage Africa
Keywords awareness

During the 2017, 2018 and 2019 calls for training in taxonomy and/or collection management & access to collections located in Belgium of the Belgian GTI focal point, students and young researchers were asked to clearly show :

  • How they plan to disseminate their results (poster, publication, diplomas, oral communications, etc...) ;
  • How their project could contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and/or ecosystem services in their country (Sustainable Development Objectives etc...) ;
  • How their project could (in the medium or long term) contribute to the fight against poverty in the countries of the South.

In the contract established with the persons who received a training grant in Belgium, a paragraph stated that after three years of research, the students/young researchers had to write a short article popularizing their results in order to raise public awareness in their country of origin and in Belgium. The aim of this call for proposals is to enable them to submit an awareness-raising project based on their scientific results.

Eligibility

Only students/researchers who have benefited from the financial support of the Belgian GTI in 2017, 2018 and/or 2019 and who participated in the November 2019 GTI Alumni Workshop in Ouidah are eligible for this call (and who have completed at least 2 internships in Belgium).

Contracts can only be concluded with an official institution (NGO, university lab or other). No contract can be concluded with an individual.

Projects, tools and their results must be posted on the national CHM in your country. You must then add a letter of agreement from your CHM focal point or CBD. A list of national CBD and CHM focal points is available here: https://www.cbd.int/countries/

When are the projects to be carried out?

The projects must take place between August 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021.

- Organize an academic session to inform students and professors of your results and their importance in relation to points 2 and 3 of the introduction; here again, explain how you will go about exciting and engaging your audience.

- Organize an information session with policy makers and other stakeholders in the area of your research; Again, explain how you will engage and excite your audience.

- Participate in a radio or television program to explain your research. Your CHM focal point can help you make contacts;
