In implementing COP decision V/9, paragraph 4, Belgium designated in 2001 the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels as its National Focal Point to the Global Taxonomy Initiative.
The overacting objective of Belgium’s GTI National Focal Point is to reduce the so-called taxonomic impediment that hinders the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The specific objective of the Belgian GTI is to help with the installment of the needed taxonomic and curatorial capacity in developing countries. To that end the Belgian GTI NFP has developed a demand-driven program of work that involves training, liberation of taxonomic data and know how and international and institutional cooperation.

The main sponsor of the Belgian GTI National Focal Point is the Belgian Development Cooperation.

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to advance efforts to build comprehensive barcode coverage for the Lepidoptera faunas of Australia and North America. This position involves four key activities linked to project organization and oversight:

Interact with external collaborators to obtain samples/specimens

Coordinate the submission of samples/specimens to the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding (www.dnabarcoding.ca), located within our Institute

Perform quality checks such as comparing image records to the collaborator-provided taxonomy and examining genetic distance trees built from the barcode records

Organize and manage data in the online DNA barcoding database, the Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD; www.boldsystems.org)

Candidates for this position should have a strong background in Lepidoptera taxonomy; experience in molecular phylogenetics is also desirable. The DNA barcode data gathered in this work will provide the opportunity for high-quality publications in areas such as integrative taxonomy, evolutionary biology, molecular ecology, or phylo-geography depending upon the expertise of the successful candidate.

To apply, please send a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to gsinger@ibolproject.org. As the position is available immediately, the review process will commence as applications are received.
</dc:description><dc:contributor>ysamyn</dc:contributor>
<dc:coverage/><dc:subject/><dc:rights/><dc:publisher>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:publisher>
<dc:type>Text</dc:type><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:source>

Senior Researcher in Orchids, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew

<dc:title>Senior Researcher in Orchids, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew</dc:title><dc:identifier>http://www.taxonomy.be/jobs/senior-researcher-orchids-royal-botanic-gardens</dc:identifier>
<dc:description/><dc:contributor>mlsusini</dc:contributor>
<dc:coverage>United Kingdom</dc:coverage><dc:subject>botany</dc:subject><dc:rights/><dc:publisher>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:publisher>
<dc:type>Text</dc:type><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:source>

MSc Degree/Postgraduate Diploma in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants

<dc:title>MSc Degree/Postgraduate Diploma in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants</dc:title><dc:identifier>http://www.taxonomy.be/jobs/msc-degreepostgraduate-diploma-biodiversity-and</dc:identifier>
<dc:description/><dc:contributor>mlsusini</dc:contributor>
<dc:coverage>Edinburgh</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Scotland</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>UK</dc:coverage><dc:subject>Taxonomy</dc:subject><dc:subject>botany</dc:subject><dc:subject>biodiversity</dc:subject><dc:rights/><dc:publisher>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:publisher>
<dc:type>Text</dc:type><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:source>

Research Assistant – Solanaceae DNA Taxonomy

at the Department of Botany, The Natural History Museum, London

<dc:title>Research Assistant – Solanaceae DNA Taxonomy</dc:title><dc:identifier>http://www.taxonomy.be/jobs/research-assistant-solanaceae-dna-taxonomy</dc:identifier>
<dc:description>
at the Department of Botany, The Natural History Museum, London
</dc:description><dc:contributor>mlsusini</dc:contributor>
<dc:coverage>london</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>UK</dc:coverage><dc:subject>Taxonomy</dc:subject><dc:subject>botany</dc:subject><dc:subject>biodiversity</dc:subject><dc:rights/><dc:publisher>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:publisher>
<dc:type>Text</dc:type><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>Dr. Y.Samyn</dc:source>

Two Ph.D positions available for ethnobotanists at the National Herbarium of the Netherlands (NHN) Leiden

Plant Use of the Motherland: Linking West African and
